The Subaru WRX STi community contains quite a lot of buzz about what gear grease to use in the car's beefy, somewhat balky-shifting 6-speed gearbox. The consensus winner is Motul 300, and I agree. As soon as I replaced the factory lube with Motul I could feel the difference; lighter, smoother shifting, smaller amount proclivity to grind, *much* better performance when cold. I've run the stuff for 75K miles in my '05 STi without incident.
Motul is one of the best oil brands out their. I enjoy been using Motul for years now, and not one problem with it. I would defenitly recommend this to anyone who asks about gear grease or oil in general.
Compared to OEM oil (2006 WRX 5MT), Motul Gear 300 shows noticeable improvement in shift point, especially when cold. I've been using it for the last 20k miles. Worth the price. It's popular in the Subaru community for a reason.
I've also compared it beside Redline 75W90NS GL-5. Filling with Redline caused a huge decrease in shift point. Stick with the Motul.
Motul Gear Oil In WRX Transmission
Seems to have done everything they say-so it does. It helped smoothness in shifting and it feels like it is protecting the gears.
